New Jersey Roadtrip!

at Beckee's grad party

The remaining cool CS kids and I drove down to New Jersey for Beckee’s graduation party for Memorial Day weekend. The pics are all on Dan’s website: http://www.dankirsh.com/gallery/summer2006/beckeeGradParty/, but this one was worth a “framing” on my blog. The trip was a blast. Highlights included but aren’t limited too:

Leslie rediscovering her childhood.
The smallest town ever! Washington, NJ (Hometown-friendly), population 6000.
Shit and Mr. Shoemaker.
Best playscape ever, and scariest slide ever. Movie here.
The random stops along the way, including Fishkill and Pleasantville (with unpleasant gas prices).
The devil child.
LCR and Acronymity.

Summer Update

Well, I’m two weeks into my internship at UTC. Still no money though, because they hold the paycheck. And, I’m really broke. $600 credit card bills don’t get paid with $200 bank accounts, that’s for sure.

There a few goals for this summer, which I will probably blog about throughout Summer ’06. One is definitely get fit and healthy again. I’m slowly working on the diet, but the getting active part is going really well. I bought some golf clubs to hit the driving range, a new tennis racquet for some tennis with friends, and I’ve been running a non-stop mile three out of the seven days of the week (shooting for 7 minute mile at least). This is all in hopes that I won’t get outbiked by middle-aged to older UTC co-workers on our summer trip to Block Island…again. I call it the Block Island Shame diet. I’m signing up for tennis lessons too in case my tennis partners punk out on me.

I’m really hoping I can create my very own WordPress template to use for this site. Although, I’m having trouble finding inspiration and creativity.
I also really hope I can program my very own game. I’m planning on making CS Spud: The Game. It’s going to be awesome.

Testing out WordPress 2.02

Sorry the rain ruined your Commencement day. I’m going to miss you all. I swore I would never write a personal, feelings, ichy, LiveJournal type posts here on the blog, but whatever. You guys rock, you were the first people I met in college and you all accepted me with open arms. No matter what I started in college, you were always the mentours and the friends that were there first and for me. Good luck in the real world, I will see you soon enough. Congratulations. Next year will not be the same without you, and I am devastated that I have to be the oldest now.

Much Love

Ducks Make Big Headlines in Bristol

Posted in Personal Stuff on May 13th, 2006 by Mike Nguyen – Be the first to comment

So, my alma mater high school (Go Lancers!) have had ducks in our courtyard for most of the time I’ve been around. They were fun to see as you were hanging out, eating lunch, but they were always off limits to students. Man, the administration and teachers treated those ducks like a criminal offense some times, you harass those ducks, and your ass is expelled.

I’m exaggerating, but still, we all respected the ducks. Found this story from a friend’s away message and just had to post on it. It’s funny on a few levels, being a BEHS alumni:

1) Of course students would totally accuse the teachers and administration for murdering the dead ducklings. Because, while it may not be true, the BEHS administration would totally be capable of it. Can anyone recall the day they stopped serving daily french fries because students stole too much Gatorade bottles? I mean, how cruel.

2) Of course it would make state-wide news. We’re a blue ribbon school! A school of such noteriety shouldn’t be killing ducks. But in actuality, even during my reign in BEHS, a duckling or two died every year. I remember looking at their corpes during biology class.

3) A parent got involved and quoted. Haha. Parents in BEHS barely make it to parent-teacher conferences, but you kill a duck, and they’re all up in arms.

4) This is probably the biggest scandal to hit Bristol this year.

Here’s a gem of a quote

“The school just went in and killed the ducks,” says [student Sean] Santopietro, “A teacher told me.” WFSB

Lebron James humping a teammate
Taken from ESPN.com today.

My roommate, upon seeing above pic, immediately laughed and questioned why Lebron James was humping a teammate. I laughed, but could provide no answer.
